Lessons in Love and Violence

Witness 3 / Madman in Lessons in Love and Violence with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. May 2018
El Pais
The best performance came from Icelandic bass-baritone, Andri Björn Róbertsson, who portrayed the Shakespearian madman in the fifth scene, the unfortunate protagonist of the lesson that the future young King receives.

Albert Herring

Superintendent Budd in Albert Herring at the Grange Festival, June 2017
Music OMH
Andri Björn Róbertsson’s Superintendent Budd was another brilliantly drawn characterization, finely sung and funny without descending into ridicule.

The Commission / Café Kafka

Craftsman in The Commission & Barman/Gracchus/Policeman in Café Kafka for Aldeburgh Music, ROH, Opera North, March 2014
The Sunday Times
Andri Björn Róbertsson led the four-strong cast with his elocutionary bass-baritone
Craftsman in The Commission & Barman/Gracchus/Policeman in Café Kafka for Aldeburgh Music, ROH, Opera North, March 2014
Boulezian
Andri Björn Róbertsson’s dark-toned – and dark of character – Craftsman was well-matched by his scene-stealing transformation from barman into mysterious Gracchus.
Craftsman in The Commission & Barman/Gracchus/Policeman in Café Kafka for Aldeburgh Music, ROH, Opera North, March 2014
The Times
... the eloquent Icelandic baritone Andri Björn Róbertsson ... Róbertsson chills the blood as he moves from barman to mythic Hunter.
Craftsman in The Commission & Barman/Gracchus/Policeman in Café Kafka for Aldeburgh Music, ROH, Opera North, March 2014
The Spectator
The Icelandic bass-baritone Andri Björn Róbertsson was outstanding as the Craftsman and Gracchus

Die Zauberflöte

Trauernacht

Bass in Trauernacht (a staged production based on J.S.Bach cantatas) at Festival d'Aix En Provence, July 2014
Musica Antiqua
For the first cantata, the show was stolen by bass, Andri Björn Róbertsson, who sang with authority, wonderfully clear German diction and pronunciation, and a beautifully warm tone.
Bass in Trauernacht (a staged production based on J.S.Bach cantatas) at Festival d'Aix En Provence, July 2014
Le blog du Wanderer
The Icelandic bass-baritone Andri Björn Róbertsson showed exceptional quality in legato singing, diction, phrasing. There is a name to remember, because of the sound, very warm, very velvety, and because of the technique and skill.

The Lighthouse

Arthur in The Lighthouse for Royal Academy Opera, May 2014
Boulezian
Andri Björn Róbertsson struck Calvinistic terror into the heart as the hypocritical fundamentalist, Arthur. From the moment of saying grace, his sonorous deep bass, combined with charismatic stage presence, had one thinking of a perverted (anti-)Christ figure. His physical excitement during Blazes’ song, offered attempted release in more than one sense.
Arthur in The Lighthouse for Royal Academy Opera, May 2014
Classical Source
Icelandic bass-baritone Andri Björn Róbertsson’s bible-bashing Arthur was a masterpiece of aggression and paranoia.

Eugene Onegin

Gremin in Eugene Onegin for Royal Academy Opera, March 2014
Capriccio
Andri Björn Róbertsson's Gremin was exquisitely sung.

Concerts / Recitals

Concert with the Café Zimmermann Ensemble, September 2017
Journalzibeline
The quality of the concert was enhanced by the presence of a beautiful Icelandic bass. Andri Björn Róbertsson (former HSBC Laureate of the Academy of the Festival of Aix) was previously heard in Trauernacht, a scenic creation imagined from Bach cantatas at the Festival d'Aix in 2014. His sumptuous timbre, his expert phrasing which fully supported the text, and the famous "Ich hab Genug", were ideally blended with the acoustic string carpet enriched with Emmanuel Laporte's oboe. Exceptional artists for a concert offered free to a pleased audience
