Young Welsh tenor Elgan Llŷr Thomas won the Kerry-Keane Junior Prize at the coveted Les Azuriales Opera on the 29th of August.

He was also awarded a separate Audience Prize, sponsored by Richard and Ginny Salter for his winning performance which featured Franz Schuberts's Nacht und Träume and Una furtiva lagrima from the Italian opera L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti.

"Taking part in the Les Azuriales Festival was a fantastic experience and winning these prizes at the end of it all was a huge bonus and an honour."

"I will remember the lessons I learned there forever and I know that their support will help me in the next step of my career."

Elgan will be performing the role of Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville at the Mananan International Festival of Music and the Arts on the Isle of Man this month before returning to commence his final year at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama's prestigious Opera Course.

Elgan will also be performing the roles of Florindo in Wolf-Ferrari's Le donne curiose and Male Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama this season.
