HSBC Laureate 2014!

3rd December, 2014

Congratulations to Icelandic bass-baritone Andri Björn Róbertsson, who has been named one of the HSBC Laureates of the Académie du Festival d’Aix for 2014!

Andri, who  was a trainee at the National Opera Studio in London last year, was chosen along with 3 other singers, a pianist and a String Quartet to be one of the Laureates for 2014 following his debut in Aix en Provence earlier this year, performing the role of Bass in Katie Mitchell’s staging of Trauernacht, a performance based on J. S. Bach’s Sacred Cantata.

Andri said:- "Working at Festival d'Aix en Provence in 2014 was a fantastic experience. The Bach project Trauernacht was very special and touching, and was made extra magical by working with geniuses like Katie Mitchell and Raphaël Pichon. Seeing great productions of other operas and recitals in the beautiful place that Aix is, was an experience of a lifetime.”

With the help of sponsorship from HSBC, the Académie du Festival d’Aix have made annual awards to  a few chosen artists since 2006. Being a HSBC Laureate will mean a long term relationship between Andri & Festival d’Aix. He will have the opportunity to perform in various concerts & recitals in Aix en Provence and on tour over the next three years, making him an ambassador for the Festival.

“Being nominated as an HSBC Laureate means so much to me and is a great honour. I am looking forward to working with Festival d'Aix en Provence again for the next three years and hopefully for many more years after that."

Andri is currently a member of the International Opera Studio in Zürich, Switzerland. His roles there and at the Zürich Opera House include Sprecher and Second Priest in Die Zauberflöte, Der König in Die Gänsemagd and Brabantische Edle in Lohengrin. He will also understudy the roles of Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro and Dulcamara in L’Elisir D’Amore at the Zürich Opera House this season.
