Born in Pencader in South West Wales, studied music at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth and subsequently at the London Royal Schools' Faculty Opera School and at the National Opera Studio.

Aled made his operatic debut at the Wexford Festival singing Ippia in Saffo, subsequently returning to sing Danilowitz in L’Etoile du Nord for the company. He is renowned for his portrayal of many character tenor roles, including Don Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro for Welsh National Opera, Garsington Opera, Opera Holland Park and Don Curzio in Le nozze di Figaro at Aix en Provence, Tokyo, Baden Baden, WNO and Opera Holland Park. Aled has sung Remendado in Carmen for WNO and for Raymond Gubbay Productions. Other roles include Mr. Upfold in Albert Herring at the Salzburger Landestheater, Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte for Scottish Opera and WNO, Goro in Madame Butterfly and Spoletta in Tosca for Raymond Gubbay Productions, Bardolph in Falstaff and Frisellino in Le Pescatrici for Garsington Opera, L’Abate in Andrea Chenier for Scottish Opera and Opera Holland Park, Gastone in La Traviata, Flaminio in L'amore dei tre Re, Chekalinsky in The Queen of Spades, Borsa in Rigoletto, Isèpo in La Gioconda, Almeric in Iolanta and Lord Cecil in Roberto Devereux all for Opera Holland Park, the title role in Martinu’s Brundibar for WNO and the Priest in Lefanu’s The Green Children at the Buxton Festival.

Concerts highlights include Janácek’s Diary of the one who Disappeared and Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle at Wexford Festival and Spoletta in a concert performance of Tosca at the Welsh Proms in Cardiff. He has performed Handel's Messiah From Scratch at the Royal Albert Hall conducted by Sir David Willcocks, a British Tour of Messiah by Candlelight promoted by Raymond Gubbay Promotions and Carmina Burana with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall, London. He also sang Mozart’s Requiem with the London Mozart Players at the Fishguard Festival and Osburgo in a concert performance of La Straniera at the Royal Festival Hall in London, which was also recorded for Opera Rara. Aled was a soloist in the first London performance of Daniel Jones' St Peter.

Television appearances include Clem in Britten’s The Little Sweep and the title role in Martinu’s Brundibar for Channel 4 Wales. Recordings include Ippia in Saffo and Danilowitz in L’Etoile du Nord on the Marco Polo Label.

Recent engagements include Goro in Madama Butterfly for Lyric Opera, Dublin, Remendado in Carmen fro Raymond Gubbay Ltd., and a recording of Mercadante’s I Normanni a Parigi for Opera Rara. Plans include Goro in Madame Butterfly for Raymond Gubbay Ltd., Trabuco in La Forza del destino and Ser Toldo Berardengo in Francesca da Rimini, both for Opera Holland Park and Scaramuccio in Ariadne auf Naxos for Welsh National Opera.
